The Creative Act: Performance • Process • Presence
Presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), The Creative Act: Performance. Process. Presence is the second major exhibition of works from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection held at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island. The exhibition offers a transcultural perspective on specific themes in contemporary art from the 1960s to today, by bringing together artists of different nationalities and generations. The exhibition features more than 25 works by 19 artists including Rasheed Araeen, Mohammed Kazem, Anish Kapoor, Hassan Sharif and Susan Hefuna. The artworks exhibited represent a variety of media—installation, painting, photography, sculpture, video, and works on paper, and focus on the related themes of performance, process, and presence.
Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will promote the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art, architecture, and other manifestations of modern and contemporary visual culture. The museum will develop a curatorial programme that will offer a transcultural perspective on art and visual culture since the 1960s, with a strong focus on art from the West Asia, North Africa, and East Asia, exploring the specific identity derived from the cultural traditions of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.
