Al Jahili Fort
The Trucial Scouts: Life and Times exhibition
The exhibition celebrates the lesser-known humanitarian work of the brigade in the 1950s and 1960s and the active role they played in UAE history and heritage. The Trucial Scouts is the nucleus from which the UAE Armed Forces was developed. The exhibition tells the story and history of Al Ain, highlighting the formation of Al Jahili Fort by order of Zayed the First in 1898. Al Jahili Fort stands proud as a historic monument and symbol of the UAE.
The exhibition is organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the G. H. Q. Armed Forces and the Museum & Military History Center.
Part of the Abu Dhabi Festival presented by ADMAF.
The picturesque Al Jahili Fort is one of the UAE’s most historic buildings. It was erected in 1891 to defend the city and protect precious palm groves. The former headquarters of the Oman Trucial Scouts, the force that protected the mountain passes and kept inter-tribal peace, it also served as a residence for the local governor. It is set in beautifully landscaped gardens, and visitors are encouraged to explore it.
