SIKKA Art Fair

  • SIKKA Art Fair Al Fahidi Street Dubai, Dubai United Arab Emirates (map)

SIKKA Art Fair – Dubai Art Season’s flagship initiative – is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Office at Dubai Culture.

The first annual initiative of its kind created to support and showcase Emirati and UAE and GCC based artists, SIKKA Art Fair also works to raise happiness and positive energy across all communities within Dubai. In 2018 SIKKA Art Fair will celebrate its eighth edition, which will be hosted from 17 to- 26 March 2018 at Al Fahidi Historical Historical Neighbourhood.

The SIKKA Art Fair is built around artist-led practices, initiatives and discourse, and includes live music, research initiatives, interactive gatherings and educational activities - all of which feature works by emerging Emirati, UAE and GCC-based artists.

The 2017 edition of the art fair saw more than 30,000 enthusiastic visitors included a hugely successful line-up of events, which garnered a remarkable turnout for its stimulating music, dance, plays, poetry recitals, improvisational performances and open-air cinema screenings featuring local and international talent.

HOUSE 42: House of Islamic Arts

ABOUT:

The House of Islamic Arts will include exhibitions, workshops, live painting and a gift shop showcasing Islamic art and culture products. The house aims to highlight the principles of Islam such as unity, diversity, tolerance, perfection and continuity, all of which are reflected in the installations and art pieces. This will include Islamic Geometry by Miaser Al Habori and Jaber Al Haddad, the Tawaaf Series by Siddiqa Juma which includes a VR experience celebrating diversity in Islam as well as Islamic patterns and calligraphy on ceramic tiles by the Alserkal ceramic division.

ARTISTS: Banu Colak, Digging through a Garden

“Digging through a garden” is a modular, multi pieces, mixed media-textile artwork. It is inspired by an Islamic garden’s layout, natural Arabic medicines and healing recipes. It engages with the long tradition of creating natural remedies from numerous Arabic plants, spices and flowers. It aims to create a dialogue in nature; in between past-present, idealistic-realistic, seen–unseen.

Ajala Project and Siddiqa Juma, Tawaaf / Noor

TAWAAF

My faith doesn’t stand still. It is a solid core of my existence. It is by no means an unmoving anchor. It represents a journey to my own centre. It is no means finite. It feels like both a destination, and the starting point of a further journey. The Tawaaf Series highlights

the irresistible magnetism that pulls believers towards Mecca.

NOOR

NOOR is the next stage in the evolution of her Tawaaf Series. The purpose of this installation is to take the viewer into a more immersive and engaging experience of pilgrimage; marrying the concept of the geographical diversity of the Ummah with the process of tawaaf around the House of God, the Holy Kaabah.
