Between Lands and Seas
Between Lands and Seas is Dia Batal’s first solo exhibition in Dubai, featuring recent and never before seen artworks. In this exhibition Dia Batal explores notions of belonging, identity and what constitutes the meaning of home. Borrowing texts from poetry, literature, and narratives from her own family history, she investigates, using materials such as paper and metal, the meaning of home as an internal point of orientation. The artworks also examine the significance of involuntary departures from a homeland, and what remains with us along those routes. The exhibition will feature drawing, collage and silkscreen on paper and sculpture in metal.
Established in 2003, XVA is one of the leading galleries in the Middle East that specialises in contemporary art from the Arab world, Iran and the Subcontinent.
