Carbon 12 is proud to present Sara Rahbar’s fourth solo show in Dubai. Sara Rahbar is an artist who embraces activism and uncomfortable subject matter, working to expand the individual acts of violence she has experienced into universal ones, to amplify the sufferings of humanity through her chosen materials. The weight of these bronzes is the weight of the world; the marred skin of these bodies is the skin that connects all of us – a skin that can be cut and must bleed even as it can regenerate. These sculptures combine heavy materials – the heft of the soul, perhaps – with intensely precarious arrangements that cause us to feel not optimism, but rather pressure, discomfort, and vulnerability.
Carbon 12 was established in 2008, initiating a comprehensive, firmly global, programme of institution-grade artists. Internationally active, Carbon 12 continuously introduces and promotes established and emerging artists into the UAE contemporary art scene, supplemented by publications and talks that actively engage the public and educational institutions. The playful, organic process that constitutes the creative production of Carbon 12’s artist base is facilitated and mirrored by its location in Al Quoz.
