Lawrie Shabibi presents Star Liner, a new show by British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové. Central to Ové’s work is the notion of belonging which he brings into his work by reinterpreting lost culture and mythology. In his works, he pays tribute to both spiritual and artistic African and Trinidadian identities, which have been given new meanings through the Trinidadian carnival – a mode of resistance - and the cross-cultural dispersion of ideas. This is Ové’s first solo exhibition at the gallery.
Lawrie Shabibi is a contemporary art gallery housed in Dubai’s Alserkal Avenue. The gallery supports the long-term development of the careers of young international contemporary artists with a focus on those from the Middle East and North Africa. The gallery also organises art historical exhibitions working with an older generation of artists from the region.
