66 Lbs

Said Atabekov is a true star of the Kazakhstan contemporary art scene. This solo show 66 Lbs curated by I.Y. Bourmistrova features photographs, videos and site-specific installations which reflect on ancient nomadic traditions of Kazakhstan and the game of Kokpar. Kokpar is a Kazakh game played on horseback where two teams compete to carry a headless goat carcass over the goal line: the title 66 Lbs refers to the mandatory weight of the animal carcass used for the game.

Andakulova Gallery is a platform for contemporary art from Central Asia with a current focus on Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, founded in 2012. The gallery’s ethos is to promote innovative artists and to make art accessible to growing audiences in the UAE and cultivate the dialogue between Central Asia and the Middle East. The gallery represents a roster of over twenty emerging and established contemporary artists. It has a diverse educational programme and collaborates on several regional projects such as the Tashkent Biennale.
