Launching DIDI presents a new milestone in the plan to turn the UAE into a global design hub. How will DIDI contribute to the UAE’s mission within the next five years?

In 5 years’ time DIDI will have graduated its first Bachelor of Design students, trained to become change-makers in the UAE and global design world. In that time, DIDI’s faculty will have contributed to the development of design thinking in the region through our revolutionary education programme, published papers and studies, exhibitions and talks, which will encourage the UAE to change the way it thinks about design. DIDI wants the UAE to think about design as a means of changing the world, design as a creative problem-solving tool and to consider sustainable design. DIDI will also house a world-class, design focused library which will be an open source of inspiration to designers in the UAE.

What makes the UAE and local artists stand out in the design world?

Much like the UAE itself, local artists build on the history and culture of the region whilst still being forward thinking and experimental, which is a unique skill set.

The UAE has made its mark in the Visual Arts, Fine Arts and Fashion Design sectors and now, the launch of DIDI will give designers in the UAE a platform to stand out in the global design world and across multiple design industries.

How important is DIDI’s location in the heart of D3?

DIDI’s location within d3 is imperative – it is embedded in the heart of the design community in Dubai and surrounded by international brands and emerging designers. This puts DIDI in a prime position to collaborate with its neighbouring industry professionals for lectures, panels and discussions and on live projects. This will allow students to help solve real-world design challenges whilst gaining invaluable real-world experiences and in turn, will provide the d3 industry access to the talent of DIDI students. DIDI’s intention is to become a nexus of creative ideation, thinking, sharing and excellence for its students and also for the d3 design community.
