How does education influence the work of artists? And how does creativity adapt to the rules and processes in academic institutes? When attempting to define an artist, one often forgets that artists are people too, compelled to making things; they trigger emotions, and project realities through different mediums. Art is a process that is honest, transparent and defiant of the status quo. This process is often challenged within academic terrains: as academia attempts to categorise aesthetics, ideas, and people. It can be difficult being both an artist and an academic. The Annual Faculty exhibition documents the constant struggle academics face: whether they are makers themselves or contributing to creators. It is a celebration of the versatility of academic artists within an institution that encourages expression in spite of the self-restrictions that come from teaching art as a discipline. It highlights the visual tension of creativity vs. regulation and invites visitors to explore the true makings of an art teacher.
